Get started

As I worked toward losing weight and getting out of the "obese" category, I realized that it really was not that hard. It did take discipline but I never felt hungry, or that I was depriving myself of food. Basically, I learned how to eat for life and be able to be healthy and well fed. I am a food lover and I have not had to give anything up, just moderate my portions - actually, while I was in weight loss mode I actually had ice cream every day while losing 5 to 7 pounds a wek. There are three things we need to do to live well - know what we are eating, be aware of how much we are eating, and get some excercise. I was 240 when I started and am now 190 and am proudly in the "excellent" category for my weight. Since I've reached my goal I am at a point where I can eat anything I want, in moderation. Most of my success can be attrbuted to a wonderful website - www.calorie-count.com - which I used every day. I urge anyone interested in losing weight to sign up on this site and set up a profile, get a food scale, and actually record everything you eat. If you can maintain a 500 calorie daily defecit you WILL lose weight. It is not a get thin quick plan, it will take a while but you will learn how to eat for life. I plan on posting what I eat every day as a guide. The foods I eat now are the same as when I was in weight loss mode, I can just eat more. Just remember portions are key. I hope this helps people lose weight and learn how to eat to ensure a long, healthy life.
